After it was reported that he was seriously ill with a viral infection, Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley has been released from the hospital. Apparenly he's on the mend.

Oh no! Michael Flatley, otherwise known as The Lord of the Dance, is seriously ill with a mysterious infection. The 48-year-old dance star entered the hospital earlier this month and completely cancelled his European tour. Doctors are running tests to determine nature of this "aggressive viral infection." Friends and family are very worried, and his sister thinks there may have been a virus "going around" at her brother's recent wedding. Flatley married one of his leading dancers, Niamh O'Brien, in October after breaking off his engagement to another woman. His previous marriage ended in divorce in 1997. O'Brien is currently pregnant with the couple's first child.
I used to make fun of this guy when Lord of the Dance was popular back in the ... late 1980s(?) because he made such a dramatic show of out Irish folk dancing, but this is truly sad and scary!

Yves Saint Laurent collapsed on the street in Paris after his show at Fashion Week last week, was treated at the scene and then taken away, presumably to the hospital. Apparently the 70-year-old fashion designer has a history of mental illness, drinking, and drug use. It could have been stress, exhaustion, hypoglycemia, or maybe he was just creeped out by having Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes pouting from behind bug-eye glasses in the front row. Lionel Richie says he took his daughter Nicole to a doctor because he was concerned about her dramatic weight loss and the doctor told him she is not anorexic. Instead, Lionel claims that Nicole's weight loss is stress-related, citing his divorce from Nicole's mother and the constant media attention Nicole receives, particularly about her weight, as stressors. Now wait a minute, that sounds suspiciously like classic denial/displacement to me. Lionel feels guilty about Nicole's problem so he blames himself (and his divorce) and then goes on to blame the media scrutiny. But the media scrutiny is ABOUT her weight, it didn't cause her to LOSE the weight in the first place.
I'm sorry, I'm just really beginning to have trouble with this. If Nicole is sick, why can't the doctors figure out what is wrong? If she is a smack addict, or has a tape worm, or some other condition, why is she prancing around like nothing is wrong, asking to be left alone? And why isn't she at least talking about what she is doing to try to get better, as she eluded to in her conversation with Tyra Banks? Doesn't she realize that the more she pretends nothing is wrong the more crazy the media will get about it? Maybe she's just trapped in the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes Dilemma. Try to maintain some privacy about certain aspects of your life and have the speculation get so out of control that you lose your chance to deal with it calmly and reasonably. At that point you have to go and do something like publish a 22-page spread in Vanity Fair just to sort it all out.
I can see it now. "Nicole: I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome". The magazines would fly off the racks, and she would get herself on the cover of Vanity Fair! That doesn't really seem so bad now, does it Nicole?

Jessica Simpson lost her voice last week because of a burst blood vessel in her vocal chord. Yick. That sounds awful. I didn't really realize this was possible. How does one do that? Scream loudly? Try to hit the high notes one too many times? In any event, it was bad timing, as she's had to go on all these television shows and struggle through live singing performances to promote her new album "A Public Affair" which was released last week.
