Former president Gerald Ford has been admitted to the Mayo Clinic for unspecified tests. In recent years he has been treated for strokes, pneumonia and a bad cold. This is Ford's fourth hospital visit since last December. At 93, he is the US's oldest living former president.
Marie Osmond was hospitalized last week after blacking out in a bad reaction to some medication, says her spokeswoman. The singer spent a few days in the hospital but is now doing fine. In its August 14th edition, The National Enquirer reported that the hospitalization was due to a failed suicide attempt, but Osmond's manager Karl Engemann denies this claim, and was quoted as saying that responding to false tabloid reports has gotten so tiresome it feels "like punching Jell-O". Boy do I know how that feels.
Aaron Spelling suffered a stroke last weekend. The 83-year-old television producer briefly spent time in the hospital and is now said to be at home recovering. Spelling created such shows as "Beverly Hills 90210," "Dynasty,"
"Charlie's Angels," "Love Boat" and "Melrose Place". He is the father of actress Tori Spelling.
After suffering a heart attack on June 11, 80-year-old comedian Jerry Lewis underwent surgery to insert a stent in an artery over the weekend, and is now recovering on his boat in San Diego.
