Celebrity health CRISIS ... !

Angelinajolie

They may be rich and famous, but that doesn't mean they can escape illness. Jenna Jameson has opened up about her skin cancer history, Peter Andre might have meningitis (scary!), and Angelina Jolie is supposedly suffering from a "deadly disease". In good news, Mischa Barton is NOT anorexic (although her friend Nicole has "body issues") and in bad news, Kate Moss and Peter "D'oh"erty inspire a new generation of nicotine addicts.

Paris wonky-eyed no more?

Parishiltoneye

Eye surgery. Something I'm sure you'd all like to avoid if possible. But not Paris Hilton. She's ASKING for it. First, by apparently getting her lids lifted six years ago, a procedure which damaged the muscles in her left eye and led to her trademark droopy-lidded look. Now, after insisting on wearing tinted contact lenses against her doctor's orders (her eyes are naturally brown, but she wears blue contacts), she's making it worse, and is reportedly looking into surgery to fix it. Sounds like fun.

Kimberly Stewart does NOT have liver disease

Kimberlystewart

Rod Stewart was going around recently saying his daughter had liver disease from all the drinking she's been doing. Or maybe he said she might have liver disease from all the drinking she's been doing. In any case, every news source under the sun reported on it, and now Kim is saying her dad has a big mouth and that she is indeed just fine. Her doctor told her to ease up on the smoking and drinking because she's been feeling "exhausted" lately. Okee, whatever, Kim. Get better!

Romeo Beckham has epilepsy

Romeobeckham_victoria Victoria Beckham has revealed that her son Romeo has been diagnosed with epilepsy, and is begging paparazzi to refrain from using flash photography on him. In a recent encounter with photographers at Heathrow airport, Romeo hid his eyes from the paparazzi and Victoria then picked him up to shield him from their flashing cameras. "He’s got epilepsy," the former Spice girl told them. "All that flashing will start an epileptic fit. You can’t do that!” It's well-known that epileptic seizures can be triggered by flashing lights. Anti-convulsant drugs are used to help control seizures and Romeo is now being treated with such a medication.

Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's symptoms

Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, appears in a TV message to Missouri voters, urging them to support stem cell research. His symptoms are apparent and presumably more pronounced than usual because he went without the aid of his medication. Fox has also appeared before Congress without his medication in a dramatic display of the effects of this degenerative disorder. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research is a nonprofit  organization dedicated to finding a cure.

Britney Spears's emergency preeclampsia birth

Britney

Britney Spears was suffering from preeclampsia when she gave birth to her second son, Sutton Pierce Federline, last week. The dangerous condition, causing hypertension in mothers-to-be, can only be cured by delivering the baby. When it was discovered, Britney was rushed to the hospital for an unplanned, emergency birth. She and the baby are now doing fine. It is not know for certain what  causes preeclampsia, although there is some evidence that there is a genetic predisposition for it. Other factors may include immunological responses and insulin resistance, which made me think: can insulin resistance be brought on by a crappy diet?

Here they are: Jared Leto's gout shoes!

Remember how Jared Leto has gout from gaining all that weight for his role in "Chapter 27"? And how his toe is so swollen he has to wear plastic clogs everywhere, even when performing with his band 30 Seconds to Mars? Well I'm sure that poses a bit of a fashion challenge for his Goth-inspired onstage look. Now here's evidence of how he does it. SILVER Crocs. Check 'em out.

Jared Leto's gout-y shoes

Jaredleto The 60-plus pounds he gained for his role as Mark David Chapman in "Chapter 27" was Jared Leto's explanation for the plastic clogs he was wearing recently at Chicago's Hard Rock Hotel. His diet and weight gain caused him to develop gout, a painful form of arthritis which causes toes to swell due to a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. Sounds painful, and I'm sure those plastic "Croc" clogs helped ease the pain.

Gout is often thought to be a disease of laziness - caused by lack of physical activity, a diet high in alcohol and rich foods and low in fruits and vegetables. This may be linked to one's metabolism of purine, an organic compound that is broken down by the body into uric acid. Eating high-purine foods such as meats and alcohol, and avoiding purine-neutralizing foods such as berries and fresh vegetables can therefore cause gout in those predisposed to it. In extreme cases, surgery may be necessary on the inflammed joint. I'm sure Jared is working hard to lose the weight and hopefully he can put this whole swollen-toe episode behind him soon.
