The craft services tables for "Six Degrees" are parked on my street this morning, because the new ABC show has taken over the entire neighborhood for filming today. I imagine they will be serving the usual rubbery eggs, limp fruit salad and mushy croissants. The show premieres on ABC on September 21st, and is all about how everyone is connected to everyone else and stuff. Basically it looks to be based on a phenomenon every New Yorker is familiar with: Manhattan is a small island and you keep running into the same people over and over and your lives are all intertwined. Visiting the website and answering a short questionnaire I learned that I am connected to the character Laura, played by Hope Davis. This is indeed true: she wears Sonic Youth t-shirts and is starting a new job. Eeeerie.
Watch a video preview here. In spite of my usual tremendous cynicism about television dramas, this actually looks like it might be good. Any show that is full of New York stories and is filmed in my neighborhood has potential. And I love Campbell Scott and Hope Davis. Yes I do.
Isn't it just like Tori Spelling to jump on the celebrity band wagon and go and do what the A-list celebrities are doing, just to get noticed? Now she's gone and copied Britney by getting her fix of greasy fried fast food at a Kentucky Fried Chicken drive-thru. Just like Britney. Although Tori can't blame it on pregnancy cravings.
